Letter To Our Community
Dear Library Patron,
The Cherokee County Public Library is an integral part of the community, providing educational and learning opportunities for the youngest to the oldest. Open to everyone, the library serves as a community resource at a time when dollars are stretched. The Public Library plays an essential role in making our community strong. In a national survey, 94% of people say that having access to a public library is valuable.
Wednesday, May 14, is National Library Legislative Day. Communicate with congressional members and ask them to pass legislation in support of libraries. You can show your support by emailing your Representatives and Senators to let them know how important the library is in your life and community.
Did you know……..
- 62 percent of people in America choose a neighborhood based on access to a public library
- A study by the Gates Foundation found that 50 percent of children surveyed use library computers to do their schoolwork
- Reading is the single summer activity most strongly and consistently related to summer learning, and without summer reading programs kids lose reading gains over the summer
- Public libraries return substantially more that $1 of benefits to their patrons for each $1 of annual local taxes
Please let your representatives in Washington and Columbia know how you use your local library and what it means to you. Financial support is imperative to continue the services of the local library.
Thank you for your support!
